Campus Reports: Maritime
A unique and specialized campus of the California State University, California Maritime Academy is one of only seven degree-granting maritime academies in the United States—and the only one on the West Coast. The Associated Students of The California Maritime Academy (ASCMA) works to make life better for all Cal Maritime students.
Key Accomplishments
Student Events: Under the auspices of ASCMA, ACE (Adventure, Camaraderie, Entertainment) conducts student activities such as coffeehouse nights, comedy nights, dances, ski trips and camping, and ARC (Outdoor Recreation Program) plans outdoor events. ARC events have included weekend camping trips, day hiking adventures and monthly rock climbing adventures.
Campus: This spring, California Maritime Academy geared up for its summer cruise by taking the Training Ship Golden Bear out on a mini cruise in the San Francisco Bay. The mini cruise allows new seniors to adjust to standing senior watches and to test out the modifications and repairs done to the ship during the year. In summer 2007, the Golden Bear will be making stops in Japan, China, Vietnam, Guam, Hawaii, Seattle and the Philippines.
Facilities: Construction is continuing on California Maritime Academy’s new simulation building, which was made possible by Proposition 1D. When completed, it will be the first building of its kind of all the maritime academies in the United States. The simulation building should be ready and open for use by California Maritime Academy students by late fall 2007.
