Campus Reports: Sacramento
Associated Students at California State University, Sacramento has accomplished a great deal in 20052007 including the online book exchange, a 24-hour study lounge and new ASI scholarships and programs that will affect students for years to come. Also, in 2007, an emphasis was placed on increasing student participation and campuswide involvement.
Key Accomplishments
Programs: ASI worked to add several new student services and programs. For example, the online book exchange allows students to buy, sell and exchange books from each other. Another added resource is the 24-hour study lounge with extended services of the operation of the library and computer labs. Also, ASI established 15 new scholarships in the amount of $500 to eligible students every semester.
Outreach: ASI conducted a number of events and meetings to promote ASI and spur student involvement. Coffee and Conversation, for example, is an event to recruit students to become involved with ASI, with an emphasis on establishing a list of prospective candidates for ASI elections. The event also serves to promote ASI programs and activities. The Day in the Quad is an event that also promotes and advertises ASI programs and activities while providing free food and music to students during lunch hours. The Presidents’ Roundtable is a meeting that invites all presidents of students clubs and organizations to provide updates, share ideas and maintain communication among student groups. This roundtable also allows the ASI president to be aware of the issues concerning students. Other ASI events included an RWEC Town Hall Meeting that allowed students the opportunity to ask questions and express their concerns as the Recreation and Wellness Center is being built; a donation drive that gave campus clubs and organizations an opportunity to earn cash for donating canned food; and an expanded one card program that allows students greater discounts in nearby neighborhood restaurants by showing their student identification.
