Campus Reports: San Bernardino

The Associated Students, Inc. of California State University, San Bernardino is committed to creating an atmosphere in which ASI is visible, accountable and empowering.

Key Accomplishments

Campus Life: ASI hosted biweekly Open Mic Nights, Karaoke Nights and Movie Nights. It also put on quarterly Welcome Back ‘Yotes Week with spirit giveaways and student forums with the campus president, and provided students with test-taking supplies for finals week. In addition, ASI hosted the annual Mr. and Ms. CSUSB Pageant, had pre-game pep rallies for both basketball and volleyball, and established the Coyote Spirit Card to encourage student participation and campus spirit. ASI supported events such as the Black Faculty and Staff Appreciation Dinner, Unity Day, and Tunnel of Oppression. Further, ASI continues to provide free legal referral service and discount tickets to major theme parks and theater chains for students.

Student Fee Referendum: ASI joined in with four other groups— Recreational Sports Clubs Insurance, Student Health Center, Athletics and Instructionally Related Programs—for a block vote to raise student fees to enhance services that the university offers. The success of this referendum has allowed ASI to increase funding toward a scholarship endowment, student research and travel, emergency student loans, budget allocation for student clubs and organizations, and programming budgets. It will also fund a pilot student leadership program.

Advocacy: ASI sponsored two resolutions. One resolution addressed dealing with the land lab preserve versus an encircling campus road encroaching upon natural teaching areas that separate the campus from others. ASI is also advocating and supporting research for a “university hour.” Further, in the past two years, ASI has co-sponsored the Early Voter Program for San Bernardino County twice. This past year, ASI hosted a Voter Education Forum that included guest speakers Bruce McPhearson, California Secretary of State; Josie Gonzalez, 5th District Supervisor; and Kari Verjil from the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters.
