Campus Reports: Sonoma

The Associated Students, Inc. of Sonoma State University is committed to promoting student interests through advocacy and representation, as well as contributing to the campus cocurriculum through a variety of purposeful programs, events and leadership opportunities. For 20062007 ASI has become a partner in the building of the Sonoma State University Center.

Key Accomplishments

Campus Life: ASI programming areas of Associated Students’ Productions (ASP) and Join Us Making Progress (JUMP) have had another outstanding year. In 2006-2007, ASP sponsored over 90 programs with more than 15,000 attendees. ASP program offerings included lectures featuring anti-racist activist Tim Wise and rapper KRS One, as well as social events like the popular Free Bowling and Campus Movie Fest. JUMP again offered hundreds of student opportunities to volunteer in the surrounding community. Through JUMP, Sonoma State students volunteered over 4,000 hours of their time. JUMP also offered two alternative breaks this year, an environmentally focused trip to the deserts of Utah and a community restoration-focused trip to New Orleans.

University Center: ASI began the program development phase of the new University Center facility along with the other partners—the Sonoma Student Union Corp., Sonoma State Enterprises and SSU Housing—to build the SSU University Center. The University Center will serve as the hub of student life on campus, incorporating areas such as campus stores, campus events, campus dining and student organization and event space.

Voter Registration: The Associated Students, Inc. of Sonoma State University Senate committed to getting Sonoma State’s college population involved in the process through voter registration. ASI Sonoma competed with ASI Humboldt to register the most students on each respective campus. ASI Sonoma registered over 300 students in the most recent drive. Combined with registration drives in the past two years, ASI Sonoma has registered nearly one-third of the student body.
