Each year, CSSA adopts a policy agenda that addresses higher education public policy issues that are aligned with the core principles of CSSA and California public higher education: access, affordability and quality. The board publicizes its commitment to work on specific issues via the policy agenda and utilizes it as a rubric in addressing student concerns at the state, federal, and university levels.
CSSA works to foster collaboration with higher ed stakeholders including the CSU Trustees, faculty, staff, administrators, external partners, and the state legislature through the policy agenda.
CSSA also takes positions on relevant higher education legislation at the state and federal level, prioritizing efforts based on potential impact on students and the CSU. Through sponsored legislation, CSSA has achieved significant student victories through legislation, most recently exhibited by having each of its sponsored bills signed by the governor from 2009 to 2013.
