- SPECIAL PRESENTATION
- Dr. Donald R. Gerth, President, California State University,
Sacramento. Dr. Gerth welcomed CSSA to Sacramento. He has
a long history in the CSU, having been a vice president at
both Dominguez Hills and Chico and, before that, served at
San Francisco State and the Chancellor's Office. His involvement
in student governance goes back to 1946, when he was a founder
of a national student association. Students have an enormous
impact, representing?even if they themselves are in transition?a
lasting mainstream interest. Dr. Gerth thinks of CSU Sacramento
as Capitol University; he sees here all students from all
campuses. Sacramento State has an excellent political science/government
program and an excellent geology department, which is in partnership
with the US Geological Survey. Fellows programs in the governor's
office, Assembly, State Senate are all associated with the
campus.

- EXECUTIVE REPORTS
- Robert Garcia, Chair. Robert thanked board members, especially
the CHESS Steering Committee, for a great conference. He said
Executive Director Susana Gonzalez is working on short- and
long-term strategic planning and on business models for CSSA
and may be ready to report to the board as early as the May
conference at Dominguez Hills. Robert noted she has already
added stability to the organization. Staff performance reviews
are underway. Robert has been talking with Ron Williams and
other presidents re procedures and policies. The Long Beach
office will prepare a letter this week to campus presidents
requesting they support ASI efforts to have every campus design
and produce a campus flag.
- Emily Foster, Internal Vice Chair. Emily is accepting recommendations
re changes to the CSSA constitution and is working on next
year's budget. Vis-à-vis staff performance reviews,
send comments to her.
- Joe Salas, External Vice Chair. March 15th is the extended
deadline for submission of logo designs. There is a good pool
of applicants for student trustee. Campus presidents will
be asked to help defray travel expenses to Humboldt.
- Brandon Kline, Legislative Affairs Committee. Brandon praised
the CHESS Steering Committee and Laura Kerr for a fabulous
CHESS. He has distributed the "no student fees increase"
letter again. There will be a Lobby Corps conference call
after the CSU Board of Trustees meeting, towards the end of
March. Legislative Affairs Committee members will need to
bring their binders to Humboldt for the April conference.
- Haleemon Anderson, University Affairs Committee. The University
Affairs Committee is pursuing elements of its policy agenda:
Cal State Cares Day will be held April 17th and the BOD has
passed a resolution on sustainable campus design. Every ASI
ought to pass an iteration of that resolution; when that's
done, CSSA can present its own and all campus resolutions
to the Chancellor's Office.
- Natoya Blaylock, Multi Cultural Caucus Speaker. MCC is
collaborating with University Affairs on the Retention Summit,
to be held at CSU Long Beach on May 3rd, the day before the
May conference at Dominguez Hills. Presidents Council is accepting
input on policies and procedures for CSSA, but only from presidents.
