Collective Bargaining
Collective Bargaining is a legally binding process in which employers (management) and employees (union) negotiate contracts or the terms and conditions of employment. The California State University negotiates collective bargaining agreements with 7 unions representing the 10 units or categories of workers employed in the system. The unions and the units comprising them are:
- Union of American Physicians and Dentists (Unit 1)
- California State Employees Association (Units 2, 5, 7, 9)
- California Faculty Association-CFA (Unit 3)
- Academic Professionals of California (Unit 4)
- State Employees Trades Council (Unit 6)
- Statewide University Police Association (Unit 8)
- International Union of Operating Engineers (Unit 10)
Collective bargaining agreements (contracts), tentative agreements and bargaining updates can all be accessed at:

HEERA recognizes students as participants in the collective bargaining
process because the outcome of collective bargaining impacts students
in many, many ways, determining everything from class size (faculty
workload) to the quality medical care dispensed at the campus health
center (physician workload).
Collective Bargaining falls within the purview of the University
Affairs Committee, and student participation in contract negotiations
is coordinated by the Director of University Affairs.
