Contract negotiations are governed by the Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) of 1981, for more information »

HEERA recognizes students as participants in the collective bargaining process because the outcome of collective bargaining impacts students in many, many ways, determining everything from class size (faculty workload) to the quality medical care dispensed at the campus health center (physician workload).

Collective Bargaining falls within the purview of the University Affairs Committee, and student participation in contract negotiations is coordinated by the Director of University Affairs.
