Student Trustee: How to Apply

  • Step 1: Complete the top portion of the " Verification of Status" form.

  • Step 2: Make an appointment with your Vice President for Student Affairs for
that person to complete the bottom portion of the "Verification of
Status" form. If your campus has no Vice President for Student Affairs,
make an appointment with the Dean of Students. Explain that you need the
Vice President or Dean of Students to verify

    1. that you will have attained at least Junior status by July 1, 2010

    2. that you are a student in good standing; and

Note: Some campuses will not project into the future and certify that a student will have such-and-such a status or this-and-so many units at a future time. For students at those campuses, the verification may be the number of units the student is currently enrolled in, plus a statement of how many units the student had accumulated as of the end of the last term.

    3. that your current gpa is at least 2.0.

Do not wait to do this: your Vice President for Student Affairs and/or Dean of Students may be unavailable if you offer only a very narrow window of opportunity.

  • Step 3: Meet with your Vice President for Student Affairs or Dean of
Students at the duly appointed time and have that person complete the
bottom half of the "Verification of Status" form.

  • Step 4: Complete the CSSA Application (.doc) | (.pdf)

  • Step 5: Prepare your resume.

  • Step 6: Write an essay of no more than 750 words setting forth your
perception of the role the Board of Trustees plays in the California
State University, some of the challenges it currently faces, and
explaining why you want to be a student trustee.

  • Step 7: Assemble your application, which will include:

    1. Completed and signed "Verification of Status" form
    2. Completed and signed "CSSA Application"
    3. Your resume
    4. Essay of 750 or fewer words

  • Optional Step 8: You may obtain letters of recommendation to support your application, although letters of recommendation are not required.

Enclose any such letters with your application. The letters of recommendation should be addressed (not sent) to the Governor as follows:

    The Honorable
    Arnold Schwarzenegger
    Governor of California
    Attention: Monica Rea
    Appointments Secretary
    State Capitol, First Floor
    Sacramento, California 95814

  • Step 9: Hand deliver or mail, either by regular mail or overnight delivery,
    to:

    California State Student Association (CSSA)
    CSU Office of the Chancellor
    401 Golden Shore, Suite 135
