Student Trustee Application and Selection Process
The California State Student Association (CSSA) as the officially
recognized voice of CSU students each year conducts a search for
the next Student Trustee of the California State University Board
of Trustees, pursuant to Chapter
8, section 66602 of the California Education Code.
Applications will be accepted until Wednesday, May 30, 2008 by 5:00 pm no exceptions.
Very shortly after the closing date for receipt of applications, CSSA, through its Initial
Review Board chaired by the Vice Chair of External Affairs of CSSA, reviews the applications.
Each member of the Initial Review Board rates each application using a predetermined point
system. The applications are then ranked in order of their cumulative numerical scores. The
Initial Review Board decides on a cut-off score. Every applicant with that score or above is
invited to an interview. Interviews will be held upon the completion of the search. Details are to be determined.
Each CSU campus is entitled to one representative on the trustee
interview panel. The representative is either the student body president
or the student body president’s designee. If the student body
president chooses to delegate his or her seat, he or she must do
so in writing by a specified date in advance of the interviews.
Questions to be asked of each interviewee are formulated by the
Initial Review Board in advance of the interviews, and any questions
campuses wish to pose to interviewees must have been submitted in
writing by a date set in advance. Rating forms will be handed out
to the interview panel the day of interviews. Each campus representative
must arrive in the interview room on time for the entirety of the
first interview and remain for all of each succeeding interview
in order to be able to participate in the final decision. While
there will be breaks during the interview process for lunch and
personal needs, at no time shall members of the interview panel
discuss any applicant or interview during those breaks.
Numerical ratings will dictate which names will be forwarded to
the Governor. Scores given by each interview panel member for each
candidate will be compiled; the names of the two to five candidates with
the highest numerical rankings will be sent to the Governor, provided that
those candidates agree to complete and submit the Governor's online
application.
All proceedings of the Initial Review Board are confidential.
